A vocational training programme on "Entrepreneurship Development of SC Farmers through Fish Processing" was hosted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Thrissur from 20-7-2022 to 23-7-2022. The beneficiaries were 25 self-help group members from Thrissur Corporation and Mathilakam Grama Panchayath. Dr. Sajeev M.V., Senior Scientist and Nodal Officer of SCSP-CIFT, delivered the keynote address for the training programme. Dr. Jeyakumari.A, Senior Scientist, CIFT gave the lecture on "The scope and opportunities of fish processing". This was followed by the hands-on sessions on fish dehydration and fish pickle production by Dr. Jeyakumari and Dr. Sreepriya. Solar dehydrated technology was demonstrated using the CIFT solar dryer installed at KVK Thrissur. A follow-up programme was conducted at Mathilakam to assess the fish products prepared after training. The small-scale fish processing units of the beneficiaries were visited by the KVK team and suggestions were given for improvement. A focus group discussion was conducted to give technical support and to discuss the possibility of starting a unit under a common brand.
